Body of Basri, Victim of APMM Shooting, Arrives in Pekanbaru and Immediately Taken for Burial

INDONESIAUPDATES.COM, News En –The body of Basri, an Indonesian citizen (WNI) who was killed in a shooting incident by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM), arrived at the Cargo Terminal of Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport in Pekanbaru, Riau, on Wednesday (Jan 29) at around 4:00 PM WIB.

On-site observations showed a white coffin wrapped in plastic being unloaded from the aircraft, greeted by family members. The body was then placed into an ambulance and transported to his hometown in Pulau Rupat, Bengkalis Regency, for burial.

Family Accepts Basri’s Passing with an Open Heart

Azrai, the victim’s cousin, stated that the family had accepted Basri’s passing with sincerity and had made immediate arrangements for the burial.

“The burial will take place today. The body will be taken to Jalan Nelayan, Rupat District, Bengkalis Regency,” Azrai said.

He further revealed that the family only learned about the tragic incident on Friday (Jan 24) and was unaware that Basri had been working in Malaysia.

“We had no idea where he was working, and there was no communication. Even his child did not know,” he added.

Five Indonesian Citizens Shot, One Dead

Basri was one of five Indonesian citizens who were shot by APMM. The incident resulted in his death, while four others sustained injuries.

The Head of the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Service Center (BP3MI) Riau, Fanny Wahyu Kurniawan, stated that BP3MI, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is demanding transparency from Malaysian authorities regarding the incident.

“Five Indonesian citizens were shot, one of whom died. The victim, identified as B, was suspected to be from Riau,” Fanny said.

Reports indicate that the victims included two individuals from Riau, two from North Sumatra, and one from the Riau Islands.

BP3MI and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are actively investigating the case to seek clarification from Malaysian authorities.
