Severe Storm Causes Tree Collapse, Blocking Road in Badung, Bali

BALI, INDONESIAUPDATES.COM – A heavy rainstorm accompanied by strong winds caused a massive tree to collapse onto the main road in Dharmasaba Village, Abiansemal District, Badung Regency, Bali, on Sunday afternoon (February 9, 2025). As a result, the primary route connecting Badung to Denpasar was completely blocked.

The fallen tree, measuring approximately 30 meters in height, crashed across the main Badung-Denpasar road after being struck by the powerful winds. In addition to obstructing traffic, the tree also brought down an electricity pole, exacerbating the situation.

“The strong winds, almost like a tornado, suddenly knocked down this tree, blocking access to residential areas. This road is usually busy, and now it’s completely shut down. Normally, traffic here is heavy,” said local resident Oka Hidayat.

The affected road is a crucial link for travelers heading to popular tourist destinations such as Sangeh, Bedugul, Ubud, and Kintamani. Given its importance, authorities quickly responded by diverting traffic to alternative routes.

Emergency response teams from the Bali Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) arrived on the scene and immediately began clearing the fallen tree by cutting it into smaller sections.

“We are currently handling the situation by shutting off the electricity in the area due to the fallen power lines. A canopy of a nearby house was also damaged. After securing the site, we are proceeding with cutting the tree to ensure smooth traffic flow again,” said Eka Saputra, Head of Emergency and Logistics at BPBD Bali.

Additionally, similar incidents occurred in other areas, including By Pass Ngurah Rai in Batubulan, where a fallen tree damaged a school. Strong winds also affected Jembrana, Bali, causing damage to dozens of homes.

Authorities continue to monitor the extreme weather conditions and advise residents to remain cautious amid ongoing storm threats.
