INDONESIAUPDATES.COM, News En – Investigators from Polda Metro Jaya have named two suspects in the illegal occupation of land owned by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in South Tangerang. One of the suspects is the head of the GRIB Jaya community organization for the South Tangerang area, identified by the initials MYT. The other suspect, identified as Y, claimed to be the heir of the land’s original owner.
Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, Police Commissioner Ade Ary Syam Indradi, confirmed the development in a press briefing on Monday.
“Y is a resident who claims to be an heir, and MYT is the head of the GRIB Jaya Tangsel branch. Both have been named suspects by investigators from the Harda Sub-Directorate of the Criminal Investigation Directorate,” Ade Ary stated.
Initially, police detained 17 individuals believed to be involved in the illegal control of BMKG’s land—11 were members of the GRIB Jaya organization, and six others claimed ownership of the land. After questioning, 15 were released.
Suspects’ Roles in the Case
According to investigators, suspect Y claimed ownership of the land based on customary rights (girik), yet failed to provide documentation such as a girik number or land measurement. Y granted power of attorney to the GRIB Jaya organization to manage the land.
Meanwhile, suspect MYT allegedly organized the occupation of the land and profited by renting it to traders, including those selling sacrificial animals.
“They charged Rp11.9 million in total to seafood stall owners and Rp22 million to traders of sacrificial animals,” explained Ade Ary.
Drug Test Results
Further investigation revealed that suspect MYT tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine in a urine test conducted by police.
“MYT, the head of GRIB Jaya’s South Tangerang branch, tested positive for drugs,” Ade Ary added.
The suspects are now facing charges under Article 167 of the Indonesian Criminal Code and are accused of committing embezzlement related to immovable property. They could face a prison sentence of five to nine months.
