INDONESIAUPDATES.COM, News En – In honor of International Workers’ Day 2025, Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi has launched two key initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of workers: a substantial reduction in Trans Jateng bus fares and a mandatory daycare policy in all industrial companies.
During a visit to the Batang Integrated Industrial Estate (KITB), Governor Luthfi emphasized the importance of these steps in supporting both the financial and emotional well-being of laborers across the province.
Rp1,000 Trans Jateng Fare for Workers
Governor Luthfi announced that effective immediately, the fare for workers using Trans Jateng buses will be slashed to just Rp1,000 per trip—down from the previous Rp2,000.
“This is to support workers who rely on public transport daily. Many don’t own motorbikes or cars, and this move aligns their fare with that of students,” Luthfi stated.
He added that this fare subsidy would help reduce commuting expenses, especially for families with only one vehicle shared among members.
Companies Must Provide Childcare Facilities
Alongside the transport policy, the governor introduced a new regulation requiring all companies in Central Java’s industrial areas to set up daycare centers.
“Workers, especially mothers, need peace of mind. Knowing their children are nearby and well cared for allows them to work more effectively,” he explained.
A model daycare facility was unveiled at KITB. It offers space for 40 children, air-conditioned classrooms, educational toys, soft beds, and trained staff. Operating hours run from 07:00 to 16:00 WIB.
These initiatives are part of the provincial government’s broader commitment to strengthening labor protections and increasing productivity by supporting worker welfare.
