Jakarta, En indonesiaupdates — Floodwaters have once again inundated coastal areas of Jakarta, as a combination of high-intensity rainfall and tidal flooding caused significant disruptions across the capital. The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that at least 46 Neighborhood Associations (RTs) were submerged in floodwaters as of Tuesday morning (8/7/2025).

The worst-hit areas include Kapuk Muara Village, Penjaringan District, North Jakarta, where two RTs experienced water levels reaching up to 65 centimeters, according to BPBD Chief Isnawa Adji.

High Tides Coincide with Lunar Perigee

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued an early warning for tidal flooding from July 4 to 13, 2025. The flood potential is linked to maximum sea tides coinciding with the Perigee phase (when the moon is closest to Earth) and the New Moon, both of which can significantly raise sea levels in northern Jakarta.

“The Pasar Ikan Water Gate has been at Alert Level 2 since Monday, July 7, at 14:00 WIB,” Isnawa stated in an official update.

Rising Alert Levels at Monitoring Posts

Several key flood monitoring posts and water gates in Jakarta have also seen elevated alert statuses over the past 24 hours, increasing the city’s flood risk:

  • Angke Hulu Post: Alert 3 → Alert 1

  • Sunter Hulu Post: Alert 3 → Alert 2

  • Katulampa Dam: Alert 3

  • Manggarai Water Gate: Alert 3

  • Karet Water Gate: Alert 3 → Alert 2

These rising water levels have contributed to flooding and waterlogging across multiple areas in Jakarta, including West Jakarta, East Jakarta, South Jakarta, and North Jakarta.

BPBD Responds with Multi-Agency Coordination

The Jakarta BPBD has deployed field personnel to monitor conditions and is coordinating with the Public Works (SDA) Service, Bina Marga, and Gulkarmat (Fire and Rescue Service) to operate water pumps and ensure drainage systems are functioning.

“We are working to drain the floodwater and ensure basic needs are met for affected residents,” Isnawa added. Coordination with sub-district and village heads is ongoing.

Residents Urged to Stay Alert

BPBD advises Jakarta residents to remain vigilant amid forecasts of continued high tides and heavy rainfall in the coming days. Citizens are encouraged to report emergencies by calling the 112 hotline, which is toll-free and available 24/7.
